Vehicle Description With big V8 power, four-on-the-floor, upgraded four-wheel disc brakes, a super-sleek style, and absolute rarity, this 1968 AMC AMX is the kind of classic muscle machine that will always have distinction and desirability.
Those initial few years when the AMX was its smaller wheelbase was truly magical.
They created an American grand touring coupe with a long hood and an elegant fastback style.
And this also shows off one of the most thoughtful designs from Dick Teague.
Crisp fender lines, a flying buttress rear, and chrome bumpers that are integrated into the look - it's a very elegant car.
But this also has an unmistakable sporty side.
The factory-correct Matador Red paint has a glossy finish from a clearcoat respray later in life, and so it takes an aggressive tone to show off some of the details.
The full-length dual racing stripes painted over the top, double power bulges in the hood, flared fenders, and iconic set of Keystone Klassic wheels make this a classic that instantly announces it's a muscle machine.
Those black racing stripes are also a preview of the full black interior.
As an original first-year AMX, there's only seating for two people, but they get plenty of space and comfort.
There are very vintage features, like the factory door panels with wood-like trim and classic AMC dash with factory AM radio still on display.
But what you'll really like is how this remains a muscle car that speaks to the driver.
A grippy three-poke sports steering, full gauges w/tach, and B&M T-handle floor shifter are all there to get your enthusiast heart pumping a little faster.
When you pop the hood, you see AMC's big 390 cubic-inch V8.
As a true X-code car, it's great to see the largest available AMX motor still in the engine bay.
You can tell they put some serious investment in this powerhouse so that the correct turquoise had an extra-glossy presentation that's ready to show off.
And if you look a little closer, you'll also see that they upgraded the power with a Edelbrock Torker intake painted to match and a Holley four-barrel carburetor on top.
This V8 is a strong runner that makes a nice tune out of the Flowmaster dual exhaust.
And you have proper control over it with the four-speed manual transmission.
And speaking of control, this has upgraded stopping power of four-wheel power disc brakes.
AMC only produced around 6,725 AMXs this inaugural model year, and how many do you think survived to look this good? When something so unique and powerful is up for grabs, you know you need to hurry on this deal.
